Addressing Drama for the Last Time

August 20th, 2009

A couple of issues have been brought to my attention over the last week. I am going to address these issues once and this will be the last time it will be mentioned by myself or any IRC Operator at xTremeGeek.

There is a petition circulating the Internet that is signed by a few people which calls for the unmerging of xTremeGeek. The complaints are that xTremeGeek is too big now and that there is not a “down home feeling of friends and family.” The goal of our IRC network, as well as the past goals of Geeks IRC and Makaiwell were to grow. As a network grows, you meet new people, you make new friends, and your circle grows larger.

We have attempted to make the merge as harmless and as easy as possible on our users. The truth is, people don’t like change. But we cannot allow our network and services to stay stagnant. We need to keep things fresh and active. Increasing our user count, growing our services, and making new friends. We continue to attempt to preserve Freedom of Speech, however in our network channels it is our obligation to maintain a peaceful environment where individuals will not be offended or harassed.

Moving on to another more visible issue that has come up over the last week. There has been vast speculation amongst a set of domains that were purchased and pointed towards another IRC network. It is important to note that we do not know who purchased these domain names, nor do we really care. xTremeGeek.net is our domain name and has been since this network was started. If someone would like to purchase other domain names and point them to other IRC Networks that is their given right. We will not get involved in calling people out or pointing blame unless we have proof of who bought them. We did inquiry about buying the domain names to lessen confusion but due to not being a wealthy network and maintaining our “no solicitation of donations” policy, we were unable to purchase them.

Last but not least. If you read our text on our homepage, xTremeGeek is about starting fresh. New beginnings and new images. Many people have made complaints about the network or people affiliated with the network regarding past behavior. Whether you have an issue with any member of the xTremeGeek Staff, a policy, or a member on our network, complaining about it in public or trying to gain momentum against them is not the proper thing to do. If you don’t want to be on xTremeGeek, that’s really your loss. If you get involved in the drama, the drama will consume you. Trust me, I know. The drama is behind me and it is behind every member of xTremeGeek’s staff. If you’re still living in it, your kindly requested to keep it to yourself.

We hope that this clears up some of the issues over the last week. I really did not want to write something like this but too much publicity is being placed on people trying to start trouble.
